Lokkat, -et(t, Lo(c)kart, n. Also: locket, -it, loikitt; loker(t, loquat. [ME. (north.) lokat (1354), -et, e.m.E. lockett (1562), MF. locquet, loquet, loket (1304); (mod. F. loquet latch), dim. of loc latch, lock (cognate with Lok n.1). The forms in -art, -er(t, are appar. exclusively Sc.]

1. A bar of metal (usu. iron) for holding in place the glass of a window.Also attrib. in Lokkat-naill.The precise meanings of this and of Glas-band are not clear. In one quotation given s.v. in OED., e.m.E. locket (Cambridge, 1598) appears to mean ‘one of the iron cross-bars of a window’.(a) 1532 M. Works Acc. (ed.) I. iii.
