Lin, Lein, v. [e.m.E. and ME. lin, linne, lyn(ne, OE. linnan, ON. linna. In the mod. south. Sc. dial. as lin, leen, lean (in Orkney and Shetl. as lin), and in mod. north. Eng. dial. as lin. The Sc. forms lein, leen, lean may be due to confusion with Lene v.1 (or possibly with Lend v.). (Cf. Blin v.)] intr. To cease, leave off. — 1644 Boyd Garden Zion 26 (Jam.).
