Liftar, -er, n. [e.m.E. lifter (1535) one who, or (1570) that which, lifts.] a. Some part of the rigging of a ship; ? the ‘lifts’ or ropes which suspend the ends of a yard-arm from the mast. b. One who lifts or raises something. — 1549 Compl. 41/16.
