Baptise, Baptese, v. Also: baptis, -iz(e, -ys, -yz, -eis, -eise, -eze, -ase; babtis, -iz. P.t. and p.p. baptisit, etc., also baptist(e, baptyst(e, babtist. [Early ME. baptis, baptize (c 1300), baptise, -yse, OF. baptiser, -izer, L. baptīzāre.]

1. tr. To baptize, to christen.(a) a1400 Leg.
