Advertis(e, Adverteis, Advertish, v. (Usually adu-.) Also: advertist, advertys (adw-), advertice, adwertise, adverties, advertyse, advertize; advartis (adwartis); p.t. and p.p. advertist (adw-), advertiste, advertisit (adw-), -tissit, -tissed; (b) advertes; p.t. and p.p. adverteist, -teisit (adw-), -teised (adw-), advertest, -tesit, -tesed; (c) advertissh, -ische. [Late ME. advertise, for earlier avertise: see Avertese v.]

1. tr. To direct the attention of (a person), to give notice to, to inform or warn.
