ARE, v. As in Eng. the 3rd per. pl. indic. of the verb to be. In I. Sc. gen. substituted for have as the aux. in the perf. tense. Cf. Am, Is, v., 4.Sh. 1817 Gentleman's Mag. (1836) III. 589:
