YANK, n.3 Sc. usage: a strap (of leather, etc.) worn round the trouser-leg under the knee by ploughmen, carters or the like. cf. Nickie-tam and Booyangs. Dim. yankie in comb. yankie-band, the 'strap' or wisp of corn stalks used to bind a cut sheaf at harvest (Ags. 1945).Kcd. 1892 Stonehaven Jnl. (25 Feb.) 2:
