YACHIS, n., v. Also yaghies; yechi(e)s. [′jɑxez. ′jeçɪs]

I. n. The noise produced by a dull blow or fall, a thump, thud, whack, a grunt (Abd. 1911 Abd. Weekly Jnl. (20 Jan.), Abd. 1950).Mry. 1806 J. Cock Simple Strains 18:
Syn, wi' a yechis, lat it fa'.
Bnff. 1825 Jam.:
He cam doun wi' a yawfu' yaghies.

II. v. To fall with a thud.Bnff. 1888 in J. S. Skinner Logie Coll. 91:
On his back he gart him wallop, Till he yaghiesed — heid an' heel.
