TANTER, v., n. [′tɑntər]
I. v. To argue, dispute in a captious manner, to rage (Sc. 1887 Jam.). Also in n.Eng. dial. Cf. Tant, v., 2.
II. n. A rage, esp. in phr. to be in a tanter (Sh. 1972).
[Prob. of Scand. orig. Cf. Norw. dial. tandra, tantra, to scold, pick a quarrel. In II. the usage has been influenced by tantrum.]You may wish to vary the format shown below depending on the citation style used.
