STROAL, n. Also strol(e). A straggling stream of herring as a detached part of a shoal (Sh. 1904 E.D.D., 1908 Jak. (1928)); by extension: a slight covering or sprinkling as of salt or snow (Sh. c.1870 E.D.D., strole). [′stro(ə)l]
