RUMSE, v.1, n. Also rums (Jak.). [rʌms]

I. v. To move uneasily, to stir, to toss about, esp. during sleep (Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928); Ork. 1929 Marw., Ork. 1968).

II. n. A stirring, a sudden movement esp. when awakening from sleep (Jak.).

[Norw. dial. raumska, roomsa (på seg), to stir (sleepily), romsen, not fully awake, O.N., Icel. raumska, to stir from sleep.]
