ROSEEGAR, n. Also erron. roseayer. Darnel, Lolium temulentum, or its juice.Wgt. 1704 Session Rec. Kirkinner MS. (17 Dec.):
He had gott too much roseegar which caused him reave that which he did not remember.
Gall. 1706 Session Bk. Penninghame (1933) I. 170:
He fell very unweel immediately after it and he thinks it was with a little barley bread one of these servants gave him, quhich he is informed is full of roseayer.

[A variant of Eng. rosaker, rosager, realgar, disulphide of arsenic. Cf. O.Sc. roseager, 1684, applied to darnel because of its similar narcotic properties.]
