RELEASE, v., n. Also Sc. forms ‡releash (Rxb. 1923 Watson W.-B.), †releich, obs. in Eng. from 15th c. (s.Sc. 1857 H. S. Riddell Psalms cxix. 32). See S, 6. (3).

Sc. usages: a variety of the game of tig in which the players who have been touched by the catcher may be released by the touch of a free player (ne.Sc., em.Sc.(a), wm.Sc. 1968). Cf. Relievo.Gsw. 1956 Bulletin (14 July) 4:
