PREDIKANTER, n. A Sh. fisherman's tabu-name for a clergyman (Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928), 1914 Angus Gl.), a preacher. Rare or obs. in Eng. See also Prestingolva.Sh. 1949 Scots Mag. (Nov.) 131:
The clergyman had quite a choice of names. He was the Beniman in one district, the Hoidin in another, and other descriptions were Loder, Predikanter, and Prestengolva.
