PARTAL, n. Variant form of parple, Pairple, q.v., a partition wall; hence partal-door, -wa.Cai. 1903 E.D.D.:
Till perhaps 1850 or thereabout one saw many small holdings, which had houses with a common front door for the cattle and the people. The door was on the byre, but close to the Partal Wa', through which the Partal-door led to the dwelling apartments. Houses on this pattern are not to be seen in the county now.
