OUTWITTEN, adv. Also outwittens, -ins. In phr. outwitten(s) o(f), unknown to, without the knowledge of (Bnff., Ayr. 1825 Jam.).Sc. a.1776 D. Herd Sc. Songs II. 151:
And sae I thought upon a wile, Outwittens of my daddy.
Bnff. 1787 W. Taylor Poems 143:
Then we took a swauger O' whiskie we had smugglins brewn Outwittins o' the gauger.
Ayr. 1846 Ballads Ayr. (Paterson) 34:
You might ha'e come to me yoursel' Outwitten o' ony body.
