LATCH, n.1 Sc. usage: a loop or catch of any kind as on the pedal of a spinning-wheel, or for putting over a button or hook to fasten a garment (Cai. 1902 E.D.D.; Kcd., Fif., Slk. 1960). Cf. Latchet, n.1Ayr. 1772 J. Lamb Annals Ayr. Parish (1896) 150:
