LAMACHREE, n. Also lamrachie, lamacheelie. A noisy lamentation, a loud wail, an outcry (ne.Sc. 1925).Abd. 1925 Greig and Keith Last Leaves 103:
O there was sic a lamrachie, The like ye never saw, As there was amongst the Hielanmen When they saw Macdonal fa'. [In other versions: lamacheelie]

[Orig. imit. of the sound of wailing, prob. with some influence from Lament and Gael. mo chridhe, my heart!, mo chreach, my ruin! alas!, both reasonably familiar in the Lowlands as Gael. exclamations.]
