LAAGER, n. Also laiger (Sh. 1932 J. M. E. Saxby Trad. Lore 201), laeger and irreg. lieger (Edm.). A sea taboo-name for the halibut, Hippoglossus hippoglossus (Sh. a.1838 Jam. MSS. XII. 132, 1866 Edm. Gl., 1908 Jak. (1928), Sh. 1960). [′lɑgər, ′l(j)ægər]
