HIVE, n. A haven, harbour. Found only in place-names such as Stone-hive, Thorn-hive (Mearns 1825 Jam.). [hɑev]ne.Sc. 1957:
Stonehaven in Kincardineshire is still known locally as Steenhive.

[O.Sc. -hyve (ne.), from 1600, variant of Mid.Eng. hythe, O.E. , harbour, phs. by conflation with haven.]
