DOONSIES, adv. In phr. fain doonsies, a term used when playing marbles, to denote that the player cannot take advantage of the slope (Mry. 1916 T.S.D.C. II.). See also Fend, v., 4. [′dunsiz]Mry. 1897 J. Mackinnon Braefoot Sk. 150:
Fain everything, fain a'thing, fain upsies an' fain doonsies.
