1. adv. Extremely, very (Sc. 1900 E.D.D., demous; Abd.2, Kcb.1 1940).Sc. 1895 “N. Roy” Horseman's Word xxxix.:
He whistelt demous sma'.
Abd. 1828 “J. Ruddiman” Tales and Sk. 271:
He seems to be a kittle brute, and deemas ill to meddle wi'.

2. adj. Great.Knr. 1825 Jam.2:
A deemis expense.

3. n. A large amount.Knr. 1825 Jam.2:
A deemis of money.

[Origin uncertain. Phs. an aphetic form of Undeemis, q.v., ad. O.N. ú-dœmis, gen. of údœmi, a monstrous, prodigious thing, something without parallel.]
