CRONE, n. The fruit of the cranberry, Oxycoccus palustris (Dmf. 1894 J. Shaw in Trans. Dmf. and Gall. Antiq. Soc. 145). Also found in n.Eng. dial. (E.D.D.).

[Prob. direct from L.Ger., which has kroonbere along with kraanbere, which gave Eng. cranberry.]
