COATS, n.pl. “Refuse of threshed corn, beans, etc., gen. given to horses” (Per. 1898 E.D.D.); “same as cavings [see Cave, v.2] — the chaff, broken ears, and siftings of corn” (Slg. 1855 J. C. Morton (ed.) Cycl. Agric. II. 721). Not known to our correspondents.
