CHORE, n. A company, band. Found in Eng. 16th–18th cents., latest quot. 1760 (see N.E.D.). Cf. Core, n., 2.Edb. 1791 J. Learmont Poems 29:
'Twas nae the Goth nor Vandal chore That desolate the Roman shore.

[The same word as O.Sc. chore, a choir, 1580 (D.O.S.T.); O.E. chor, id., Lat. chor-um, Gr. χορος, a band of singers and dancers; a troop, band in gen.]
