BILGATE, n. A chew of tobacco in the cheek.Ayr. 1890 J. Service Thir Notandums xv.:
When he had taen twa or three bilgates o' tobacco, he cam to the bauld conclusion to tak the same bill as it were by the horns.

[Prob. of same origin as Bilget, n.2, in which the underlying idea is of something bulging or projecting.]
