ATFERD, n. Behaviour, ongoings. See also Atfares, Attifer. [′atfɛrd, ′atfərd]Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928):
Atferd, behaviour; conduct; manners, he has nae atferd, he does not understand how to behave himself; now esp. queer conduct; ludicrous deportment. Often in pl.; atferds, wheer atferds.

[O.N. atferð (see Atfares,n.pl. — The form atvird given s.v. Adber, and the phonetic rendering [′atvɪ̢rd] with the example from Sh.4 1930 might have been entered under this word; atvird seems to be due to cross-assimilation between adberd and atferd, owing to their having a similar meaning.]
