WHOUP, n. ? A habit, tendency.Sh. 1879 Shetland Times (12 April):
'Ad 'e been trained like me, he'd been a foost-rater, bit 'e 'ad a veeshous whoup o' bultin'.

[Form and meaning are of doubtful authenticity. The language of the speaker is intended to be a mixture of Shetland and Cockney. The usage may have been suggested by Whip, n., 3.]
