WASTLAND, n., adj. Also was(t)lan, westlan. Sc. forms and usages of Eng. westland (Per. 1893 Harp Per. (Ford) 262, Bwk. 1904 Lady J. Scott Songs 23). Cf. Eastlan' and Wastlin.

I. n. The west of Scotland. Derivs. westlander, an inhabitant of the west of Scotland; ¶westlandways, to the west of Scotland.Sc. 1814 Scott Waverley xxxvi.:
