TOTAL, adj. An abbreviated form of Eng. teetotal (Bnff., Abd., Ags., Rxb. 1972). Also in Eng. dial. Hence total(l)er, a total abstainer, a teetotaller.Per. a.1843 J. Stewart Sketches (1857) 22, 78:
