STRUD, v. Also strodd (Jak.). To pull hard, to tug against some resistance (Sh. 1825 Jam., Sh. 1971), specif. in rowing (Sh. 1866 Edm. Gl., 1908 Jak. (1928)) or as a fish when hooked (Sh. a.1838 Jam. MSS. XII. 215, 1914 Angus Gl.). Sometimes followed by on, adv. [strʊd]
