STIMMER, v. Sc. form of Eng. stammer.

1, To go about in a confused manner, to blunder about (n.Sc. 1808 Jam.). See Stammer.Gall. 1933 Gallov. Annual 89:
[To] tak' a dram an orra time, wi'oot comin' stimmerin' hame.

2. To stammer, to speak haltingly, to stutter (Ork. 1971).Ork. 1908 Old-Lore Misc. I. viii. 321:
[To] stimmer oot like an alarm knock rinnan doon "I canna had me tong ony langer."

[The form derives from 15th c. O.Sc. variant stemer with fronted vowel.]
