STAINCHEON, n. Also stenchion, stention. Sc. forms of Eng. stanchion, an iron bar of a window (Ork., Cai., Bnff. 1971). See also Stainchel, Staincher.Abd. 1707–15 Abd. Jnl. N. & Q. VIII. 57, 246:
For takeing out four slentins [sic]. . . . For slaping a window in the sellar of my dualling house . . . for stentions and tackits to it 16½ shil.
