TAORLUATH, n. [Gael. poss. f. teòr(a), Old Gael., three, or saor, free; noble, or perh. f. taobh side; secondary + lùthadh, lùth, power; movement.] A variation in pibroch, usu. the next-to-last, preceding the crunluath, in which the prominent theme notes of the melody are each followed by a sequence of grace notes (s.v. grace note) leading into the note low A (or low G) for contrast; the combination of grace notes characterising the taorluath variation.Sc. 1925 John P.
