CACHET, n. also catchet. A seal; a stamp for impressing a seal.Sc. 1754 John Erskine Principles of the Law of Scotland (1809) 177:
On the accession of James VI. to the crown of England, a catchet or seal was made, having the King's name engraved on it, with which all signatures were to afterwards sealed.
Sc. 1753 Scots Magazine 15 62:
He obtained a letter of cachet.
