LYALL. Bot. After David Lyall (1817–95), of Auchinblae, Kcd., surgeon-botanist with Ross and other explorers. Derivs.: Lyallia, a genus of purslane from Kerguelen Island (1846 J. D. Hooker Flora Antarctica II. 122); lyallii, specif. name of a Ranunculus of New Zealand (1879 J. D. Hooker in Garden XV. 291).
