MENZIES. The historical pronunciation of this name is [′miŋɪs] (Peb. 1896 T. Dobson Innerleithen 153, Meengis; Sc. 1900 D. P. Menzies Hist. Menzies Clan Soc. 4). Pronunciation with [z], now freq. heard, is due to the influence of the spelling. See Z, letter.
