MISNESS, n. A sheep-mark consisting of a cut or notch made in the septum of the nose.Ork. 1720 Studies in Folk Life (1969) 227:
The right Lugg off and an Ax behind the left Luge and ane hole under. The Misness off which sheepmark as above was Intimate to the hail Inhabitants then present.
