BY-GIRDLE, n. A purse or pouch forming part of a waist-belt. Obs. in Eng. in 16th c.Arg. 1741 Arg. Justiciary Rec. (Stair Soc.) II. 513:
Finding in the byre part thereof a cheese and a by-girdle wherin there was twelve pounds sterling and upwards of gold and silver.
