SKIRDOCH, adj., n.

I. adj. 1. Flirtatious, giddy in behaviour “applied to a coxcomb, or a coquette” (Fif. 1825 Jam.).

2. Easily scared or frightened (Id.).

II. n. Appar. a giddy young woman, a flighty girl.ne.Sc. 1782 Caled. Mercury (4 Sept.):
Nae skirdoch weirs ae worset gown, Bat silk an' satin.

[Orig. doubtful. The meanings suggest some connection with Skeer, adj., but the form is not clearly explicable.]
