POTTLE, n. Also pottal. Reduced form of potful (Kcd., ‡Ags. 1966). Cf. Cairtle, a cartful, Hantle, a small quantity, a handful, etc.Abd. 1795 Stat. Acc.1 XVI. 385:
They have also peculiar contractions, viz. cartful, cartill; potful, pottle; etc.Ags. 1894 J. B. Salmond My Man Sandy (1899) vii.:
