PEITAN, n. Also pietan; pytane; päitin, pattin, päitek (Jak.). A small irritating person or child, an annoying creature (Sh. a.1838 Jam. MSS. XI. 172); “a young child, a term of endearment” (Sc. 1808 Jam., pytane).Sh. 1903 E.D.D.:
We hae a maelishius pietan o an aalie grice.
Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928):
A piri päitin. Päitins o' bairns.
