1. The drainage channel behind the cattle in a byre (Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928), Sh. 1964). Cf. od(d)ler s.v. Oddler and Olger.

2. Liquid manure from a byre, slimy mud, mire (Sh. 1866 Edm. Gl., 1908 Jak. (1928), Sh. 1964).

[Norw. dial. aale, Dan. dial. ajle, adel, al, cattle urine, with -er suffix.]
