MESGAR, n.2 A small open-meshed straw basket used as a muzzle for a horse (Ork. 1929 Marw.).

[Norw. meis, a basket carried on the back (see Maise). The second element is obscure, phs. a reduced form of Norw. gjord, a band, girth.]
