LYAM, n. Also liam. A rope made of hair, a tether (s.Sc. 1808 Jam., App.). [′lɑeəm]s.Sc. 1885 W. Scrope Salmon Fishing 215:
A rope made of goats' hair, called “the lyams,” is fastened to the top bar of the Spear just above the shortest prong.
