LURT, n. Also lort (Jak.), and derivs. luirtiss, -too (Ork.). [lʌrt, lʊrt]

1. A lump of dirt or excrement, a turd (Sh. 1866 Edm. Gl.; Sh., Ork. (luirtiss, -too) 1961).Ork. 1930 Orcadian (13 Feb.):
A luirtiss was a shapeless, unsightly mass. Luirtoo was much the same.

2. A clumsy person (Sh. 1866 Edm. Gl., 1908 Jak. (1928), Sh. 1961), a lazy lout (Ork. 1929 Marw.); any overgrown unwieldy person or animal.Jak.:
A lort o' a piltek; a lort o' a chield.
