†LOCKER, n. The ranunculus, Trollius europaeus (Twd., Slk. 1825 Jam.).Slk. 1828 Blackwood's Mag. (Nov.) 562:
And the palfreyis taille behynde did saille Ower locker and ower lee.

[Agent n. from lock, from the habit of the flower in closing up in rain or darkness. Cf. lucken-gowan s.v. Lucken. The form however may be due to a conflation between the last and lopper-gown s.v. Lapper, v.1]
