KLIPE, n., v. Also kläip. [kləip]

I. n. 1. A lean or emaciated person (Sh. 1914 Angus Gl.) or animal (Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928), Sh. 1960); a miserly or stingy person (Jak.).

2. A thin barley bannock, made without baking-powder or soda (Sh. 1960).

II. v. To pinch, squeeze; to be stingy (Jak.). Ppl.adj. kl(e)ipet, kläipet, narrow, contracted, lean (Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928), 1914 Angus Gl., Sh. 1960); miserly, stingy (Sh. a.1838 Jam. MSS. XII. 126, 1908 Jak. (1928)).
