KATABELLA, n. Also kat(t)abelly. The hen-harrier, Circus cyaneus (Ork. a.1795 G. Low Fauna Orcad. (1813) 37, 1866 Edm. Gl., 1929 Marw.).

[Cf. O.N. katt(ar)-belgr, a cat's skin. The bird gets its name from the resemblance of its feathers to the fur of a cat. Cf. Icel. kattarskinn = Katogle, and cataface s.v. Cat, n.1, II. 1.]
