HANGERS, n.pl.

1. A species of seaweed or tangle, Laminaria digitata (Abd., Mearns 1825 Jam. s.v. cairn-tangle). See also cairn tangle s.v. Cairn, n. III. 2.

2. The cords from which a herring-net is suspended from the buoy-rope, the ossels (Abd., Kcd. 1972 Patterns in Folk Speech (Wakelin) 24).
